Match.com is possibly the most popular dating app. It’s been around for more than 25 years, has 21.5 million members, and roughly a third of the online dating marriage success rate is attributed to Match.com. The thriving dating site has a ton of features, including the ever-popular video chat option. Match.com has created a fun and inviting dating experience for singles, and there’s even a free trial.
Best for | Anyone looking to date, have fun, or get married |
User base | Mostly Caucasian, gays, lesbians, heterosexuals, transgender, bi, etc. |
Number of members | 21.5 million |
Recommended age | 25-55 |
Favorite features | Video chat |
Match.com has a freemium account as well as premium ones. The free account lets you send limited messages, receive up to 6 Top Picks every day, and send likes as much as you want. If you want to take your online dating to the next level, you’ll need a premium subscription. Those will unlock additional features like unlimited messaging, seeing who likes you, receiving read receipts, monthly boosts, and more.
Three Months | Six Months | Twelve Months | |
Standard plan price per month | $27.99 | $19.99 | $15.99 |
Premium plans price per month | $29.99 | $21.99 | $17.99 |
You can also sign up for a single-month membership for $39.99. But that’s just unnecessary. There’s no question that a premium account provides you with a lot more than a free account (no surprise there). But Match.com does something most other dating apps don’t: it offers you a free trial. You can test out the premium features for free to see how you like them. These offers are sent to freemium members periodically.
The standard plans do not come with message-read alerts, upgrade status view, monthly boosts, unlimited rewinds, and super likes.
FYI, Match.com has a More options button too. And when you click that, you’ll be given a huge list of identity terms and gender preferences, including androgynous, bigender, gender nonconforming, gender variant, pangender, neutrois, two-spirit, and many more. The list includes 34 different options, making Match.com easily one of the most progressive and open dating sites out there. You’ll also be asked which members you’d like to be shown to and which types of members you want to be shown.
Then you can tell Match.com your birthday, zip code, first name, and email to get the show on the road. Next, you’ll need to answer some profile questions. Nothing too heavy, though we don’t love that you can’t skip this part entirely. Match.com does use this information to help generate more relevant matches, though. So that’s a good thing. Questions include do you have kids, what’s your education level, and do you smoke. You’ll also be asked to describe your partner as well.
The final stage of the signup process includes phone verification. Match.com will send you an SMS with a verification code. Plug it into the site, and you’re ready to roll.
Match.com has a great search engine. You can use loads of filters and toggle things on and off at will to get more accurate search results. You can even search for specific terms, use a reverse search to check out who’s been checking you out, and do a date spark for faster results.
Match.com’s matchmaking algorithm uses behavioral learning. That means it will learn your behavior from your activity on the site and adjust your match suggestions accordingly. Mind-blowing, we know! Aside from the advanced technology, Match.com’s track record for success is a clear indication of its efficacy.
Not surprisingly, Match.com has a fabulous array of top-notch features. Here are a few notable ones:
Match.com also has great communication options, including matchPhone, which is a built-in phone app that lets you talk and text with other members. It even comes with voicemail. Best of all, there’s video chatting, an even more popular option since corona came around.
Match.com is a pro at online dating. So, naturally, security is top-notch. For starters, Match.com carefully vets each profile request. It’s actually something some users have complained about, but it certainly keeps the whole experience safer. What’s more, you can hide your profile and block other members as you see fit. Match.com also lets you report any security issues or vulnerabilities you might have found in the site.
Match.com has an excellent help center on the site. It’s got tons of useful information, and the database is even searchable. Good show! Unfortunately, Match.com doesn’t have fabulous customer support options. You can email them Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM CST. But that’s about it.
There’s not much not to love about Match.com. Its reputation precedes the site itself, and 25 years in the biz is proof of that. Match.com has also put in a ton of effort to make a feature-rich, comfortable user experience. Features like video chat, incognito mode, and Super Likes certainly attest to that. Match.com also hosts social events, provides 1-on-1 expert dating advice, and has great search functionality. All in all, Match.com has done a great job and earned its reputation.
